Ardingly College Summer Camp Report
I liked the summer school in Ardingly College and I really enjoyed my stay there. I’ve been to 2
summer camps before, but I think this year the camp was the most successful and interesting.
I wasn’t in the camp alone; I came with two of my friends Victor and Sveta. When we arrived to
Ardingly College on the 17th of July we were amazed by the size of the main building of the
school – very impressive. Then we met some members of staff and the showed us our rooms. I
and Sveta were quite sad because they said that we can’t live in one room, but we got used to our
rooms in a short time – we only were sleeping there. The rooms were quite small but all right to
live in. there was a wardrobe, a sink, a table with some shelves and of course a bed.
After our dads left we’ve been given some instructions about our behavior, rules. We also had
an excursion around the territory of the school, it was just huge! You can easily get lost there,
so nobody risked to go anywhere by themselves. Mark, member of staff, showed us were gym,
swimming pool, lake, dining hall, tennis courts and football pitches were.
The food not so good, I just ate potatoes, cereals and chicken nuggets sometimes. But maybe
I’m just used to home food. What I thought was not right is that it was only allowed to take one
fruit for each person. What should I do if I am not eating anything else, why can’t I take as many
fruits as I want?
I stayed in the camp for two weeks, and in this period of time we had six trips: shopping on
Oxford Street, we saw famous places like Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and
visited The British Museum. We went to Brighton and Crawley for shopping and beach, and in
Oxford we saw some Colleges and also did shopping. The excursions were very interesting even
though we walked a lot. The thing I didn’t like was that we had to travel for 2 hours on the bus,
but there is nothing you can do about it. But over all I really liked the excursions.
Every morning, except for weekends, from 9 to 12:40 we had lessons and 40 minutes break. First
lesson lasted 2 hours and the second 1 hour. The lessons were very interesting and entertaining
– I really enjoyed them. We did some fun stuff too; we played different games like “charades”
and “cheat”. During the lessons we didn’t just sit and write boring tasks, most of the time we
talked to our partners and classmates, we were getting to know them better. We got many new
friends in the camp; we got eachother’s Facebook to keep a contact.
After morning lessons we had fun activities and different sports and games. Some of them
were swimming, football, beauty session, bracelet making and many others. My favourite were
rounders, nail pampering, swimming and arts&crafts. Some of them were boring but most were
very interesting and funny.
After dinner in the evening we had evening activities: discos, quiz nights, karaoke, films, and
football tournament. What I didn’t like in them was that if we didn’t want participate in the
activity or if it was boring, we couldn’t have gone to our rooms and do what we like, they just
didn’t let us go.
In my opinion the Ardingly College Summer Camp is very good and interesting. I think that if
somebody from my friends will ask me, I would recommend them this camp. Of course there are
always some disadvantages but it’s easy to cope with them in this summer camp. I had a great
experience!
